Our Founding Story
Lev-Echad was founded in 2023 by Elizabeth Mursal, a woman whose personal journey of loss and resilience shaped her passion to serve orphans, widows, and survivors of gender-based violence.
Elizabeth experienced first-hand the struggles of growing up without stable support and saw how many children and women in her community faced neglect, abuse, and deep vulnerability. From these experiences, she carried a vision: to create a safe place where no child would feel abandoned and no widow would be left without dignity.
With no initial funding or land, Elizabeth began with small community outreach efforts in Handeni, Tanga — providing food parcels, psychosocial support, and safe spaces for conversations. Early support came through volunteer efforts, small personal donations, and partnerships with local leaders who believed in the vision.
In 2024, Lev-Echad began the groundwork to establish a dedicated orphanage home for 80 children, along with programs for widows and GBV survivors. Today, Lev-Echad is steadily building partnerships with local and international donors, working toward a future where compassion, safety, and opportunity are guaranteed for the most vulnerable.
